Responsibilities:
• To carry out maintenance works for displays installed at the permanent and thematic galleries of the Museum, including –
a) Preventive maintenance work by taking routine inspection to a maximum number of 12 galleries;
b) Urgent repair work upon request;
• To construct panels, showcases, display plinths, platforms or frameworks for facilitating exhibition production and education activities;
• To produce mounting devices for secure fixing of exhibits on display –
a) To discuss with curatorial staff, designers and conservators regarding the design and material of the mounting devices;
b) To measure, construct and produce trial tests on fitness and adequateness of the devices;
• To transport and install constructed items, such as cabinets and shelves at various offices of the Museum;
• To provide operational maintenance, including –
a) To inspect workshop tools and machines for ensuring safe state of readiness of equipment;
b) To keep working area neat and orderly by removal of debris at the end of the work;
• To carry out urgent repair work on office furniture and facilities of the Museum and preventive maintenance works at the two branch museums located in Tai Po and Sai Kung;
• To assist in both on-site mounting and dismounting of exhibits for exhibition production;
• To assist in performing inventory checking of equipment and to maintain storekeeping of carpentry materials;
• To perform other duties assigned by the Museum Representative.
Qualifications:
• Form 3 or above or equivalent;
• Craft Certificate in wood trade, or above of relevant courses, offered by Construction Industry Training Authority or the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education;
• Passed in the relevant trade test with certificate offered by Construction Industry Training Authority or the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education

• Must have at least Nine (9) years’ solid experience as museum carpentry, major responsible for providing mounts for fixing of exhibits and display items for museum exhibitions, and providing structural frameworks of panels, display plinths and showcases. Service Provider may be requested to submit documentary proof of the proposed servicer to substantiate its claim of relevant experience. Candidates who fail to meet this mandatory experience requirement will not be further processed for evaluation;
• Competence in handling workshop machines for producing wood and acrylic works;
• Good knowledge in skeletal structure or framework for producing panels and display cases, safety procedures and practices and other regulatory requirements;
• Able to speak fluent Cantonese, to work independently and under pressure;
• Careful, self-motivated with pleasant character; and
• A permanent resident of the HKSAR.
